@Jakari: It was indeed, but I think we can clearly see how far Pirelli has come since then. That was frankly terrifying last season at several stages, but Pirelli responded well to the criticism. In fact, you could argue they have gone too conservative this year with some of their tyre choices in 2014.

@Nithy: That was from FP1. His first time was compromised by a crash from Felipe Massa, before Marcus Ericsson's beached Caterham during his second quick lap meant he had to slow through the middle sector. We've yet to see him on a clean lap alongside Rosberg yet.

@connor: Works engines appear to be the way forward now, yes. Eric Boullier said as much very recently. Interesting what Christian Horner said this week though, that Renault has not given Red Bull priority over its other customers. I think Red Bull feels it can still be successful with Renault but only if it treats the team as if it is the factory team, if that makes sense.

@Jakke: Hard to predict. Chilton is one of the guys who has a tough time shaking that "pay driver" reputation, I think. He had that record of finishes, yes, but a question-mark still remains about his racing ability. Extra pressure now Bianchi has scored that point as well.

FP2 is green lit with air temp up to 22c and track temps at 38c, still sunny but with a strong wind across the trackby Caterham F1 Team via twitter 7/4/2014 1:03:59 PM

@PaulH: I think whenever you take a driver away from his car it pains him! But they understand the importance of doing so, plus they may also appreciate a different perspective from a younger pair of eyes. I don't think it has a huge impact on a weekend as it's FP2 that really shows the pecking order.
