@EkloveDasgupta: Possibly, Hulkenberg admitted as much yesterday. But considering the car was launched yesterday it has made a strong start.
That's the end of the morning session. Fully updated times and lap counts coming your way...
@FERNANDO: Musn't forget Vertappen.
@BarryLauer: There's been a few images of what looks like blistering, but that would be very unusual in these cool conditions. It's more likely that it's an issue with the tyres not getting up to temperature as the medium conmpounds are better suited for warmer climes. Either way, it's unlikely Mercedes has regressed to W04 issues as the regs and tyres have not changed hugely and they were very kind on their tyres last year.
@georgefranzxavi: It as super-softs for the top four, softs for Magnussen and mediums for Hamilton. Force India has made decent progress so far, although it would have been better to be doing the current work in Jerez. It looks like the car will at least be reliable at the first race. True performance might take a little longer to come
A few technical issues of our own just then, but we are back with you for the start of the afternoon session.
@FerrariFan: All depends on fuel loads. But I think it's safe to say the Mercedes is quite a bit quicker at the moment.
Massa is back out on track to add to the 45 laps and fastest time he set this morning
@Canuck: Air temp is 12C but it feels warmer in the sun. Track temp is 28C
After the fun and frolics of fast laps on the super-softs before lunch, Massa is now on the hards and Raikkonen is out on the mediums. This could be the start of Ferrari's race sim
@Efranov: That time was set on the super-softs, as were all the times for the top four.
@BarryLauer: Each team is allocated 110 sets for the whole of testing. They can choose which compounds they want and Pirelli also offers some development tyres and winter compounds as added extras.
@TishirChhaparia: The team has been making some "experimental set-up changes" over lunch, so not a reliability issue.
@Fishface: No, Magnussen was on softs.
Magnussen is back out again in the McLaren to add to his 38 laps from the morning.
@Fishface: Progress has certainly been made since the start of the week, but there is an awful lot still to come.
