@Senthil: They will complete a race sim this week. Ferrari often leave it until the last test when the car is in its final stage of development before the first race to do a race sim. Different teams have different ways of working.
@StevenWilson: It's also not as simple as a big bag of money to drive. There are sponsor commitments that have to be worked out too. I have no doubt that Mercedes don't want to pay that much, but that story will have come from a source who will have had a motive for releasing it.
Vettel delivers a gift to all you Ferrari fans out there with the second fastest time - a 1:25.901 on the soft tyres.
@racer19: True, it wasn't a spectacular lap by any stretch of the imagination. I think Ferrari is not too worried about their fans right now. They will be if they are off the pace in Melbourne, but this is testing
But we very nearly had a dark blue Ferrari on the grid two years earlier when Stirling Moss signed a deal to race a Ferrari sharknose in the 1962 season. The car was to be a factory-spec Ferrari 156 but painted in the blue and white of Rob Walker. Sadly Moss had his near fatal accident at Goodwood that year and retired before he had a chance to compete in it
More on Moss and Ferrari can be read in the feature below
Back to the action, and Rosberg is still out on the mediums which he set his fastest time with. Nasr is also on track on the mediums, as is Button in the McLaren (now up to 31 laps) and Kvyat is still yet to set a time but is on track on the development tyres.
More on the strange man behind the Essex sponsorship and his extravagant launches can be read in Maurice's blog
Good news Force India fans! Hulkenberg has left the garage in the new VJM08
Installation lap complete for the new Force India. We'll get a picture as soon as we can...
A shame that the Force India made its debut into the world without any ceremony. In recent years Force India always used to treat us to bacon sandwiches at Silverstone during a filming day to take the covers off the car. A sign of the times for that team.
@Goldenoldie: Thanks for the info!
@rockedin123: That's a pretty stock answer from Kimi. I heard him say more or less the same thing about the Lotus when he was winning races back in 2012 and 2013
