It took Murray two hours and two minutes to wrap that up. He'll have harder matches ahead, for sure, but that was a good workout to get back into the swing of things in SW19.
And he did it with an ace down the line. Terrific performance from the champion, who was not given an easy time by any means by a determined Goffin, who gets a superb and deserving ovation as he walks off.
ANDY MURRAY BEATS DAVID GOFFIN 6-1 6-4 7-5
BREAK FOR MURRAY. He trailed 40-15, gets it back to deuce, then takes the next two points to move 6-5 ahead in the third. He'll serve for the match.
BRIT WATCH: Dan Cox was a break up in the third set against Jeremy Chardy, but he's now 2-1 down and it's back on serve.
Did I say first real test? Consider it passed with flying colours. A love hold, with an ace thrown in for good measure. Brilliant from Murray.
Goffin holds for 5-4, which means that Andy Murray will be serving to stay in the third set. The first real test for the defending champion in this year's tournament.
Queen's champion Grigor Dimitrov is out on Court No.1 for his first-round match against Ryan Harrison.
If nothing else, David Goffin will be able to say he played some fine tennis on Centre Court. The latest in some excellent tennis is a sliced backhand dropshot at the net that leaves Murray scrambling forlornly and brings a huge ovation. There's even a hint of a smile from the Belgian.
Murray serves his sixth ace of the match on his way to a love hold. 4-4 in the third set.
Meanwhile, back on Centre, it's going with serve in the third. Goffin seems to be settling in to this - too little, too late?

Next up on Court 2 is Venus Williams, who faces the grandly named Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor. It's like a mixed doubles match in one name!
Goffin goes long with a forehand at deuce, then challenges out of sheer disappointment. It's long and Hawkeye can't even keep the baseline in the same shot - that's how far out it is. One serve later, it's a Murray hold.
And Murray saves them both. The second is a shot of a champion, deep into the forehand court with Goffin straggling along behind it. Deuce.
Back on Centre, Goffin has two break points against Murray...

No.6 seed Tomas Berdych is at deuce receiving for the match against Victor Hanescu, having lost the first set.
A broken string for Murray and a new racquet comes out the bag. He's also having an interesting back and forth with the umpire, via Hawkeye, which keeps proving the umpire (and his line judges) correct. Much to the umpire's amusement.
No such problems for Andy Murray though. Holds to love to take the second set. It's 6-1 6-4 Murray after 70 minutes on Centre
Ward now two sets down to Youzhny on No.3 Court. Not looking good
French Open semi-finalist Ernests Gulbis safely into the second round after a 7-6(7) 7-5 7-6(10) win over Juergen Zopp.
